TEIR II PENSION EXTENDER BILL
Updated On: Aug 25, 2009 (11:02:00) Print or Save this ArticlePRINT/SAVE Email Article to FriendEMAIL

INFORMATION ON OUR PENSION IS AVAILABLE ON THE NEW YORK STATE PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION WEB PAGE.

The veto by the Governor of Tier II has no effect on any current member of Local 282. New members hired in the future will be placed in Tier III. Differences are outlined in the article posted on the state's web page.

Currently 282 along with all IAFF locals in New York State (including NYC) are actively pursuing an override and possible permanent status for our Tier II Pension. Success in this endeavor will have all firefighters in the same pension system.

The State Association and your executive board have been aware of this action by the governor and taken appropriate action since June 2, 2009. Some of 282's and state's responses have been:

>>>>282 hired a lobbyist for this issue and our fight to have the

control board go to an advisory status

>>>>We have been in Albany personally, talked to elected Senators

and Assemblymen from our area on the phone and also sent

out letters to each and every one of them stating our concerns.

>>>> Contrary to some, our pension has not been changed or

reduced. All information and communications are available for

viewing at the union office anytime.
