A veteran Buffalo police officer died early this afternoon from injuries suffered early today when police say an SUV driven by a drunken driver struck his vehicle from behind on the Niagara Thruway.

Officer Jose A. Colon, 39, a 12-year veteran of the force, died at about 1 p.m. in Erie County Medical Center's Trauma Intensive Care Unit.
